Ho Trams and motor bogies.

I was asked which KATO bogie was under each of my trams.

Each tram has the motorising chassis underneath.

Some were easier than others and a couple have a bogie chassis whereas the original was four wheeled. This is to enable the tram to negotiate the extremely sharp curves on Cody Street which measures 3ft x 11 inches.

Motorised Atlas Edition Trams-Ho scale.

I think this is as many trams that I need.

All are KATO motorised, some with bogie chassis and some with the 4 wheel bogie. Others in the range are too long for the curves.

Except for theLisbon Tram, second from left, all are from Atlas editions. The models were all dismantled by fair means or foul, accomodation for the motor being removed by slitting disc and file.

Below are pics of them on Cody Street my micro tram layout.

Smart Models Right angle magnetic clamps.

My attention was drawn to these by a friend who told me that they had 25% off on a special offer.

Never one to pass up an offer a couple of sets were ordered. They quickly arrived but for some reason laid unused for a while.

I wanted to build a Wills Village Forge and remembered the clamps. Very useful and easy to use- they did exactly what it said on the box- hold things at right angles. Below are a couple of images of them in use.

Just a satisfied user!

00 Gauge Somerset and Dorset Luggage Van.

The Luggage van is finally finished and I am quite pleased with it bearing in mind that it is made from five or six pieces.

The S&DJR stickers came from a friend and the compartment wording from a Pressfix transfer sheet.

After a waft of Testors matt varnish had dried then flush glazing was added from the SE Finecast range. I managed to pick up a packet with several sets of Clerestory coach windows some time ago meaning to flush glaze the set I already had- will have to do them now!

00 Gauge Dapol Cattle Wagon.

The two cattle wagons I have, one Hornby and the other Bachmann ,have an amount of detail around the coupling area.

Visiting Alton Model Centre recently I found a Dapol BR version which perfectly fitted the bill. Just removing the coupling locating screw gave a nice flat surface to fit the Sprat & Winkle coupling.

The 3mm version is being used on the wagons to be shunted- short rakes will be the norm.

A hole drilled each end enabled the wire to be slid in and secured with a spot of superglue and its all ready for service.

00 Gauge Southern Region loco and coaches.

In amongst the clerestory coaches were a pair that had been lengthened. The two make a good pair which have had the ends squared off ready to be modified for the Southern roof profile.

It is intended to modify the Brake end to a driving trailer although I have enough parts to make another.

A recent arrival is a early crest Kernow 02 0-4-4T which, together with my kit built example will provide alternative motive power on Woodlands.

00 gauge Somerset and Dorset Luggage Van.

Recently I found several elderly Tri-ang/Hornby clerestory coaches and roofs. The coach bodies , with the exception of one, had all been modified but none finished.

One was a full brake or luggage van which I was going to use for a LSWR vehicle.

But, on taking a longer look, my mind changed and I thought it would make a fitting addition to my rake of Somerset & Dorset clerestory coaches.

So out with the paint and after painting blue and the ends matt black stickers were added.

A couple of clerestory roofs were cut down and joined and the result is a good looking luggage van. Just needs numbering and varnishing and then the windows, SE Finecast, can be fitted.

Some details of goods wagons.

A few random photos of goods stock at the Mid Hants during the steam gala.

Whilst not always faithful to original, it does give details which are not covered by your available information.

Two mixed goods trains were running whilst I was there , one drawn by an Ivatt 2-6-2 Tank and the other by a defaced Thomas!

I love the weeds growing in cracks in the concrete weight of the BR Brake van- never seen that modelled before.

Some action from the Mid Hants Steam Gala.

Ivatt Tank shapes up to waiting goods vans for demonstration run.

Below a Black 5 comes off its rake of carriages to be replaced by the waiting Standard.

Lastly an S15 arrives from Alton with a passenger train.

Details from the Mid-Hants.

When visiting preserved lines it is all to easy to concentrate on the big firey things that cover you in steam and smoke.

Today at the Mid-Hants steam gala I didn't think to get a booking so, quite rightly wasn't allowed entry.

So leant on the wall of a nearby bridge and watched the action from there for a while.

The photo is one of those you wish you had taken more often as they are so useful when building-in this case-signals.

700 Posts- Layouts over the years in 3mm & 4mm scale, 009 Narrow Gauge, HO Trams and 0 Gauge.

3mm scale Teignford- has appeared in Railway Modeller and at Warley- shows station.

Quarry Siding is a minimum space 009 layout built by Paul Levy on a cable drum.
Hillbrow is my first 009 build. This one also appeared in the Railway Modeller but the ticket collector     was still upright!

RAF St Misrah is 21 x 24 inches and this one appeared in both Railway Modeller and 009 News.
My only foray into 0 Gauge is Cringle Street Goods. Imagined in South London it is an exercise in how small I could make a workable 0 Gauge layout. Since relocated to a new home.
This is Woody lane. It is a continuous circuit 009 layout based on nowhere in particular but uses the smaller stock in my collection.

Gwartha Vellan Tramway ( Cornish for Higher Mill) is the latest 009 layout. Based in Cornwall it is really an excuse to run my Lynton and Barnstable Manning Wardles. Baseboards are from Norfolk Heath Works and is in five fifteen inch modules

Two pics of St Mewan a Cornish layout in 4mm. The layout is 7ft long by 8inches deep with a 10inch extension to the fiddle yard. This is still under construction as is Gwartha Vellan.
Cody Street is a simple oval operating motorised Atlas Editions HO trams. Petite Properties low relief building kits have been used throughout- named after my youngest grandson.
Lastly is Hennock which was my first 3mm scale layout. This one has also been published in Railway Modeller and also appeared at Warley. This picture appeared in Railway Modeller in an article about portable layouts.

Finished 4mm wagons.

Ready for the roof  and couplings to be fitted .

All three are now finished and an pretty pleased with the results.

Just another kit to make- a Palvan which has already been primed but this time I have masked the chassis with brake gear and vacuum tank still to apply.

Next post is the 700th so will be looking back.
