700 Posts- Layouts over the years in 3mm & 4mm scale, 009 Narrow Gauge, HO Trams and 0 Gauge.

3mm scale Teignford- has appeared in Railway Modeller and at Warley- shows station.

Quarry Siding is a minimum space 009 layout built by Paul Levy on a cable drum.
Hillbrow is my first 009 build. This one also appeared in the Railway Modeller but the ticket collector     was still upright!

RAF St Misrah is 21 x 24 inches and this one appeared in both Railway Modeller and 009 News.
My only foray into 0 Gauge is Cringle Street Goods. Imagined in South London it is an exercise in how small I could make a workable 0 Gauge layout. Since relocated to a new home.
This is Woody lane. It is a continuous circuit 009 layout based on nowhere in particular but uses the smaller stock in my collection.

Gwartha Vellan Tramway ( Cornish for Higher Mill) is the latest 009 layout. Based in Cornwall it is really an excuse to run my Lynton and Barnstable Manning Wardles. Baseboards are from Norfolk Heath Works and is in five fifteen inch modules

Two pics of St Mewan a Cornish layout in 4mm. The layout is 7ft long by 8inches deep with a 10inch extension to the fiddle yard. This is still under construction as is Gwartha Vellan.
Cody Street is a simple oval operating motorised Atlas Editions HO trams. Petite Properties low relief building kits have been used throughout- named after my youngest grandson.
Lastly is Hennock which was my first 3mm scale layout. This one has also been published in Railway Modeller and also appeared at Warley. This picture appeared in Railway Modeller in an article about portable layouts.

Wincanton Model Railway Exhibition 9/10th November 2019

All set up at the Wincanton Model Railway Exhibition.

Although very frosty this morning the weather soon changed and the rain hammered down .

Many excellent layouts in a good selection of scales plus traders offering many bargains .

The only problem is which bargain to buy!

A couple of bookings for 2021 were made soI can't sell the layout yet!!!

Lisbon Tram for 009-Motorised.

For some time I had been looking  for a 4mm scale Lisbon Tram. I am really fascinated by these vintage vehicles which wind their way through the streets and hills of Lisbon. I had visited a few years ago but didn't realise that a 4mm scale model was available.

So after finding one from the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society , I duly obtained one.
So, how to motorise? I had a cut down Kato 11-104, the thin one, which fitted between the side frames of the base. Taking it the tram apart was simple, just a couple of screws.

A hole large enough for the power bogie was cut into the floor and four squares of plasticard adhered as shown to prevent the bogie falling out- it is mounted from the top.

Likewise a holewas cut into the seating moulding which, if cut correctly  keeps the bogie in place.

Above is the bogie mounted into the chassis with the seating fitted. Handily there are four mounting lugs for the seating which keep it all in place.

The body itself is as bought and simply clips onto the chassis keeping everything in place.

Finally, the roof is fitted and the tram tested- all works well even though the bogie has been hacked about somewhat.

Will have first outing with Hillbrow at Taunton this weekend- however, it will only be on shed as it is too tall to negotiate the bridge- oh well!

009 Nine Lines Welshpool and Llanfair Brake Van.

I have had this kit for some time but until now it languished in the to build drawer.

A Nine Lines kit, it fits together after a minimum of flash has been removed and the pieces squared up when released from the sprues.

The kit was supplied with wheels, spoked with metal rims and pin point axles.

When it had reached the stage shown in the first photo, it was given a coat of grey primer which will do as a top coat.
The roof was also undercoated, this time in white, also the finished colour.

When dry, and left for a couple of hours, The ends were painted vermillion and the underframe black. A guard was also fitted.

Once all was dry the numbers, six in this instance, were added. A coat of matt varnish was applied before the glazing was fitted- clear plastiglaze.

Finally Bemo couplings were modified with uncoupling pins before being secured with epoxy glue.

ID Backscene.

I love these products. Used on Hillbrow and Woody Lane, they always attract positive remarks at Exhibitions.

The ones I use are designed for 2mm scale but are just perfect for smaller layouts.

The 00 scale products are too deep for my use- 15 inches which makes the backscene too high.

By the way, the next Dorset Modellers meeting is tomorrow, 15th September from about 1pm at The Avon Causeway Hotel Pullman Car.

Worsley Works 009 GVT Clerestory Coach.

Well, after a long time the final addition to the GVT fleet has been completed.

My painting skills aren't what they used to be so I will have to live with it.

Destined to join the Peco GVT coaches but with a freelance slant, this will complete the coaching stock rakes to be pulled by the tram locos

Signage for Woody Lane.

I extolled the virtues of the wooden alphabets which were available from The Works.

However, it was a frustration that numerals were not available to the same size.

Fear not intrepid readers- The Range supplies numerals which are slightly larger but as these were to be used on Hillbrow and Woody Lane the difference in size is not relevant.

There is now no doubt as to the scale of the layout-Hillbrow next!

009 Kitbuilt Tallylyn Loco.

Another loco that has benefited from the attachment of nameplates is the GEM Dolgoch kit paired with a Neville Kent N Drive chassis.

This loco runs beautifully and now has it's own identity-Tallis.

009 Double Fairlie first run on Hillbrow.

The Poole Exhibition was the Double Fairlies first extended run .

The running was faultless - it does run a little faster than other locos but this was quickly mastered.

It really is something different and a couple of viewers said that they didn't realise that there was no valve gear until I told them.
