00 Gauge Smallbrook Studio rebuilt LSWR Road Van.

An unexpected purchase from an auction site led to this kit landing on the front door mat.

The provenance is amply explained in the heading picture so I won't repeat.

The resin cast kit comes with a Dapol RTR chassis which requires a small amount of modification before assembly.

So far the mod's to the chassis have been carried out and one side and end glued together with superglue. A thin viscosity type is recommended so it penetrates the butt joints.

00 Gauge China Clay Wagons.

One that I wasn't aware of is this example by Dapol as a special edition for Mevagissy Model Railway & Locomotives International (That's what is printed on the box label.)

A standard Dapol 7 plank end door wagon nicely finished with crisp lettering.

Another for the burgeoning collection!

Completed bus for Watershoot Bay.

After stripping down the body was primed and undercoated before the finish of Maunsell Southern green was applied.

The chassis had a coat of satin black and the interior painted with a neutral light brown.

The roof is a light cream.

Once all dry transfers for Southern Vectis were applied together with a ficticious destination board.

Allowing time to set the whole was coated with matt varnish before the windows were refitted and the body reunited with the interior and chassis. Pleased with the result and another addition to Watershoot Bay.

A selection of 00 gauge stock for Watershoot Bay.

Three locos so far! A couple more to convert.

The latest addition is an Oxford Rail GE van which has been Southernised together with a couple of available stock to be used on the layout.

Did I mention that Watershoot Bay has been booked to appear at the Minehead Show in August so better get a move on once the 009 shows have been completed.

Please be aware that wagon numbers might not neccissarily be in the right order!

While preparing Woody Lane for the forthcoming Gartell Railway weekend, I thought I would take the opportunity to take a few pictures, some of which show some additions.

The layout is a simple oval with passing loop and siding in the station. The fiddle yard enables a couple of trains to be assembled and run individually.

The bonus is an end to end raised section which, for entertainment purposes ensures that something is always running whilst the mainline disappears from view.

A Southern Vectis bus for Watershoot Bay.

A reasonable purchase off of an auction site saw an EFE Bartons Leyland single decker delivered extremely promptly.

A few minutes with a pin vice saw the bus separated into numerous parts ready to change identity.

A quick brush over with a glass fibre brush was enough to key the surface for a covering of grey undercoat. Thence a coat of grey primer followed, when dry, by a coat of Southern Olive Green.

New toy- Zeller rolling road for 00 -16.5mm gauge.

Although I already have an adjustable Rolling Road by Bachrus which caters for all of my gauges, 9mm 009,12mm 3mm, 16.5 00 and 7mm I have always thought that an 00 fixed road would be useful.

As luck would have it one was advertised on a chat site and duly purchased.

This is a lovely engineered piece of kit and, once thoroughly cleaned, performs superbly. I was unaware of two different lengths- this being the longest at 60mm which means it will cater for the longest of my stock.

00 Gauge Isle of Wight wagons and vans for Watershoot Bay.

The rolling  stock for Watershoot bay has been completed.

The open wagons are simple repaints of Dapol 4 planks whilst the covered vans needed a little more work.

All of the van bodies are the Tri-ang Hornby/ Hornby Hull and Barnsley type of moulding.

Whilst they are not exact replicas they do, to my mind, give a fair representation of those that ran on the Isle of Wight.

The vans have different chassis depending on the bracing of the body. The cross braced pair have PECO Parkside PC570 9ft wheelbase LNWR/LMS wooden underframes .

These are fitted with Gibson wheels- Dapol and Hornby ones aren't suitable for the chassis.

The bodies were all rubbed down with a fibreglass pencil to remove most of the heat printed detail on the body as supplied. Then undercoated in bauxite primer and then hand brushed with Railmatch Southern Freight Brown.

The transfers are a mixture of Modelmaster, HMRS and Old Time Workshop. The numbers are ficticious- I wasn't going to buy another set just for these .

Once set the wagons and vans had a waft of matt varnish just to keep all in place.

A satisfying result which completes the rolling stock, coaches and wagons, although another Teak coach needs an identity change.
