O Gauge Austin 7 van.

A 1/43 scale Austin 7 van has been added to the growing O gauge fleet.

Originally it was finished in a garish Coca-Cola livery. After dismantling this was removed with a glass fibre brush , undercoated and repainted in green.

Not perfect but will do the job.

00 gauge coal staithes and delivery lorry for Watershoot Bay.

The coal yard has it's staithes and a lorry to deliver the loaded sacks.

The staithes are from Anyscale Models-https://www.anyscalemodels.com/

I have used their products previously and the casting is excellent with little flash to clean up.

The delivery lorry is a Base Toys Albion CX3 which was produced from around 1935. A driver has been fitted together with sacks of coal, empty sacks and  coal scales.I must say that pre-WW2 trucks are virtually non-existant

Once painted the moulded coal had a sprinkling of real coal. A set of Springside coal merchant workers, which comes complete with weighing scales has also been added.

Not possible to add to the layout atthe moment as Woody Lane is being prepared for the S&DJR Trust exhibition at Edington this weekend 22/23rd July 2022.

00 Gauge Oxford Diecast Riley Elf.

One of my all time favorite cars was my Riley Elf- this followed a Mark 1 Riley 1.5.

It was basically a Mini with a boot on it. Mine had twin carbs and slightly wider wheels and went like a scalded cat!

So, imagine my joy at Oxford Diecast producing a model of the Riley Elf.

Mine was Green with a cream roof- hope the produce that version also!

00 Gauge EFE Southern Vectis Bristol LS.

A lucky find at a very competative price at Shillingstone Station shop was this EFE Bristol LS.

Branded Southern Vectis this will be an excuse for another era on Watershoot Bay which, incidentally has received it's first exhibition invite.

The thing that really attracted me was the advertising for Mew Langton Ales.

A very long time I remember sitting on the quayside at Lymington watching the Mew Langton open boat from the Isle of Wight being unloaded of it's barrels.

Mechanical Horse by Scammell- Full Size!

No visit to Shillingstone would be complete without viewing the progress on the Mechanical Horse.

This is the 3 ton vehicle- there was a five tonner with a larger engine.

At present the doors are being made and fitted- this is an excellent restoration and a credit  to all those involved.

This is my replica from an Oxford Diecast 1/76 the model.

Does need a numberplate to finish.

I have repainted a similar model into Southern Railway livery for use on my Isle of Wight layout 'Watershoot Bay'.

Completed bus for Watershoot Bay.

After stripping down the body was primed and undercoated before the finish of Maunsell Southern green was applied.

The chassis had a coat of satin black and the interior painted with a neutral light brown.

The roof is a light cream.

Once all dry transfers for Southern Vectis were applied together with a ficticious destination board.

Allowing time to set the whole was coated with matt varnish before the windows were refitted and the body reunited with the interior and chassis. Pleased with the result and another addition to Watershoot Bay.

00 gauge S&DJR Mechanical Horse- Completed!

The Mechanical Horse has turned out rather well I think.

Although the era is wrong it is a might have been at one of the S&D stations.

Glazing has been refitted- not the original, I destroyed that removing it. Luckily the cab is square so a piece of scored plastic glazing could be used.

Transfers are from the HMRS Pressfix range- just need to fix numberplates .

00 Gauge S&DJR Mechanical Horse.

So,I was rummaging around evil bay the other night when I came across this lovely mechanical horse model by Oxford Diecast.

There is a S&DJR example at one of their sites which gave me an idea- rare I know!

There was still some paint in the rattle can of Halfords Rover Midnight Blue so why not- would be rude not to!

Out with the drill and separate the cab from the chassis, rub down, undercoat and apply said blue. The trailer was trickey to mask to make life easier but eventually the sides and headboard- boxwood L section- was coloured similarly.

The transfers come from a HMRS Pressfix sheet and, because the paint dries gloss adhere exceptionally well!

The overspray areas were painted Matt Black- Valejo paint- and when dry the flatbed was cleaned up with some synthetic thinners.

This is an excellent project except that the glazing was destroyed during removal-ho hum!

So, on to completion. The glazing will be made from some packaging offcuts but before that a coat of Satin varnish will be applied as this is a preserved vehicle.

Updated scenes from St Mewan.

A few scenes from St Mewan as it hurtles towards completion.

Only a few passengers are awaiting the next service- nearly outnumbered by staff- that was the nature of things then all contributing to the ruthless removal of perceived loss making infrastructure.

No thought for the future was given at that time!

Oxford Diecast Vauxhall FB Victor.

I collect models of cars and commercials that I worked on during the late 60's and mid 70's.

Vauxhalls were not one of my favourite manufacturers but I have to admit that I owned two Crestas,
a PA and PB , both in two tone pink!

What attracted me to this FB Victor was the numberplate- JAS- perfect for my granddaughter.

Needs a bit of fettling but will fit in with any of the 4mm layouts.

009 Bus under the Bridge!

Everyone bangs on about buses on bridges. Well, to be different here is a bus under the bridge.

It is a Shamrock and Rambler Bedford OB to be precise.

I remember these outside the S & R premises on Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth next door to Charlies Cars with Excelsior European Motorways a little further down the road towards Central Station.

O Gauge Thornycroft Van.

I picked this Corgi 1/43 model from an exhibition for a pound- will do just right for the O Gauge layout (still un-named) I thought.

First job was to dismantle and rub down before applying undercoat .

Not wanting to spend any extra I had a look through the transfers that I had. The only ones large enough were these Royal Mail ones from a HMRS sheet for GW coaches.

These will do I thought but no Royal Mail red spray can was in stock so a maroon coat with black roof and chassis cab was applied.

So- a nice cheap addition for the O Gauge layout with no name!

300th Post- Woody Lane update.

Yes indeed, this is the 300th post on Dorset Railway Modelling.

Many more are on the now inaccessible Dorset 3mm Modelling blog.

So- a couple of new buildings for the Station approach, one is a resin offering, the other is the Severn Models etched brass workshop.

This was soldered together and dry brushed brick colour over a white matt undercoat.

Below, for something different is a bus under a bridge. In this case a Shamrock and Rambler Bedford OB coach.

Great Dorset Steam Fair 2018.

After a prolonged wait in a traffic jam and a lengthy queue for tickets I finally entered the showground just before 11am. Usually I have been in for a couple of hours so I am unsure as to what changed.
Anyway- several pictures of engines attending culminating in my favourite 'The Iron Maiden'.

3MM Scale Double Deck bus.

Picked this up from the second hand stall. A couple of missing bits but the kit makes up very easily.

Just some destination blinds to fit and a platform pole to fit, maybe a clippie as well.

Should really have fitted glass to the windows but forgot before the lower deck was assembled!

Where has that bridge gone---!!

Quarry Siding face shovel.

The first time i saw Quarry Siding there was a Corgi Ruston Bucyrus face shovel.
I didn't include the RB in the purchase.
However, I found this at the recent Romsey Show so this one has joined the fleet.
I do like the way the cord has been added to the operating gear making it fully poseable.

Scale Link Wolseley Hornet.

Tisis one of my finds from the 009Sales Table.
An excellently made Scale Link model that has been expertly finished.
This one will will be part of Woody Lane which has just hadthe baseboard completed.

Bedford MK completed!

I must admit that I have felt absolutely lousy over the last couple of weeks, one of them spent in bed with a horrible virus- thanks grandkids!

So no modelling at all, all the energy going to prepare Hillbrow and stock for this weekends Narrow Gauge South at Barton Peverill College in Eastleigh near Southampton.

Only other thing I did was to apply the transfers to the Bedford MK and actually declaring it finished!

It really comes out as a good representation of the prototype. It may be that I will add fuel hoses to depict fuelling the Hawk Trainer sat on RAF Misarah although that would mean changing all of the vehicles-I already have a Land Rover partially built which has a first coat of sand paint the same as the MK.

Finally these pictures are from a new camera- the last one fell on its lens which rendered it un-useable.
So these pictures are from a Sony DSC-H300.

Anyscale Bedford OYD.

After a good wash and rinse the two main parts have been superglued together. This time I used Gorilla Super Glue, a gel that needs shaking before use each time.
The bar across the grille, a copper wire bent to shape has been glued into the pre-drilled holes.

The other two parts have been glued into    position, the spare wheel and the flatbed body.
It just remains for a decent day to arrive so that a light grey undercoat can be applied.
This is not actually required butfor me it gives a colouring for the glass.
Below is the completed truck waiting for a coat of paint.
