St Mewan Station- groundwork finished.

The first structures have been fixed into place.

The station, lamp hut and signal box have also been bedded in with fine granite chippings to hide the joins.

I think it is starting to look like a model railway but there is still a long way to go even in a total of five square feet!

Next to find all the bits and pieces that have been squirreled away for just such an occasion.

RAF Masirah 009 hosts Mosquito.

After finishing the Mosquito, I realise that it hasn't been pictured on the ground at RAF Masirah.

This has now been put to rights after posting on Facebook Micro Layouts which I was recently invited to join.

The Mossie just about fits- measure twice and build once!

009 RAF Misarah in Railway Modeller.

Really pleased with this months Railway Modeller as RAF Misarah appears as the Micro Marvels feature.

This is a first for me having taken the pictures as well as writing the text.

It is also the 70th Anniversary edition of a magazine I have been reading since 1960.

So thank you Steve for Misarah's
inclusion.

The Mosquito has landed.

I wanted an alternative to the Hawk for RAF Misarah. So the Mosquito has been finished ready for deployment. OK- I know the markings are somewhat speculative but its my etc. etc.

It just about fits the apron on Misarah so I need to remove the Hawk and then conjure up a way to transport both without damage.

A Mosquito for RAFMisarah.

I always intended to be able to alter the eras depicted on Misarah, presently the incumbent aircraft is a Hawk Trainer.

As you will have seen from previous posts various vehicles have been made for inclusion on the layout.

So an Airfix Mosquito was obtained from Cheltenham Model Centre at reasonable cost and the assembly result is shown with two halves painted silver before being finally having detailing paint applied and final assembly. More to come!

South West 009 Modellers 13th Open Day. (SWOONS)

Next Saturday, 12th January 2019 is the SWOONS group open day.

Taking place at the Merryfield Hall, Ilton, Somerset, TA19 9HG between 10.00 and 16.00 .

Admission is a very reasonable £3.

I will be taking both RAF Misarah and Quarry Sidings so hope to see some of you there.

RAF Misarah- just about finished.

 Resisting the temptation to add more it seems that Misarah is just about finished.

A few shots of the layout in operation just to make sure that all works- just had to tweek the turnout to the beach club.

There are a couple of diesel locos with a small selection of stock which all go together in one box so easy to transport.

RAF Misarah- Beach Club.

RAF Masirah had a beach club which was served by a flat truck fitted with seats to transport the personnel to their watering hole.

A few minutes plus some balsa wood, strip plastic and a card kit of a shed saw the effort on the right and below.

A few discarded oil drums plus a couple of stray bombs completes Misarah- just to glue a couple of club patrons in place.

009 News August 2018.

The latest 009 News had an unexpected surprise for me when it hit the doormat recently.

Chris Ford, the editor, has published my piece on RAF Misarah- although he spelt my name wrongly!
I am quite pleased with how the photos have come out having been sent full size to Chris.

The 009 News has a pleasing feel to it and contains articles which are of interest to a wide range of skills.

Scale specific mags are possibly of an informative nature than the mainstream mags giving clues as to where supplies can be sourced and local group information is freely imparted.

Sand for RAF Misarah 009.

 The subject of a covering for the polystyrene sand dunes has been thought about for a considerable time.
I did try and find a substitute but all my efforts didn't look right.
So down to an un-named beach and a small amount of sand procured.
A slightly diluted kids PVA was painted onto the painted Polystyrene surface and sand sprinkled on trying to keep even.
I still have to fill between the tracks but will wait for this to fully dry before tackling that.

PECO Cricket Pavilion.

 I bought this for Misarah. It will be the Beach Club for personnel relaxation.
I have altered it slightly having done away with the hip roof replacing it with boarded ends and a corrugated iron roof. PVA glue was used to construct- carefully applied with a fine paintbrush.
This is a well thought out kit- the laser cutting is very fine as can be seen in the images.
The previous PECO wooden station was marked
as being produced by 4Ground but there is no markings to identify who laser cut it.
The wooden bit is built- maybe we will get a few decent days so I can spray paint it!

009 Stock for RAF Misarah.

 I had acquired an amount of stock during the early gestation of Misarah.
A couple of Narrow Planet RNAD  99HP Baguley-Drewry Diesels powered by Kato chassis are the main motive power and both were built by Nigel.
Rolling stock is a Narrow Planet RNAD crew van. This brass etched kit builds nicely and, rightly or wrongly (probably the latter) is finished in green.
The other wagons are plastic kits from the 009 Society.
Various other items, bombs etc, are from various sources which mostly I can't remember the origin.
Power is provided by a Gaugemaster Combi which is attached by a couple of crocodile clips to a couple of nails surgically inserted to a high tech plastic chocolate block connector.
Sorry about the rogue brake van but I didn't notice it sidling up to the Hawk until I had attached the photos-and it is raining!
