009 GLRailways (Steve Dodd) Bingley Works Side and Pannier Tank Loco bodies.

The twins have been painted and await nameplates. They were both bought from Steve Dodd of GLR Bespoke Services.

They both were originally designed for a Fleischmann 7000, also fits an N-drive 12mm wheelbase chassis with the ends trimmed down.

Both of mine have chassis by Nevill Kent of N-Drive and once run-in perform well. Their pulling power is impressive with some lead in the smokebox and boiler.

009 Nigel Brooks 3D Printed GVT Loco.

At last a new post and it is 009.

This 3D printed kit for the full cab GVT Tram loco is designed for the latest KATO 33-109 motor bogie. Indeed it just clips in with no additional work required.

The window glass just clips in , although I secured them additionally with a smear of varnish.

Still awaiting lining, the model performs well and looks superb.

Seen here performing on Woody Lane at the recent Woodgreen Steam and Model Railway Show.

Nigel is to be congratulated on a very inexpensive virtually RTR (the motor bogie can also be supplied) model and his website is a must to peruse.

PECO/KATO Small England loco for 009. Salisbury & SouthWilts RS Exhibition.

The Small England has arrived for duty on Woody Lane.

Princess was the loco that I purchased at an excellent price from Salisbury Model Centres stand at the recent Woodgreen show.

Whilst preparing Woody Lane for the Salisbury Exhibition I took the opportunity to run the loco in for 30 minutes in either direction.

She ran perfectly from out of the box with a decent pulling power despite her diminutive size.

She will be performing this coming weekend , 21st/22nd May 2022,at the Salisbury and South Wilts RS, Michael Herbert Hall, South Street, Wilton, SP2 0JS.

Opening times-10.30 - 16.30 both days.

If you attend do come and say hello.

009 loco's for Woody Lane.

A Double Fairlie from a 3D print on a KATO bogie chassis.

Seen awaiting it's next duty at Woody Lane.

Below it is seen coupled to its mineral train consisting of 009 Society and Jurassic wooden kit wagons mounted on PECO 'N' gauge wagon chassis fitted with metal wheels.

Woody Lane 009 -ready for action!

Unashamed selection of photos taken whilst the layout is readied for Gartell and , later in February, Compton Dundon.

The loco's are all being tested and suitable stock selected.

Because of the tight radius of the track on Woody Lane, down to 7 inch radius, bogie stock is unable to be run.

So a selection of 4 wheel stock, GVR and Welshpool and Llanfair will be used-

Next tranch of 009 locos ready for sale.

Next lot that are surplus to requirements will be a couple of Minitrains Baldwins and a Bachmann WD weathered Baldwin.

Each will probably be accompanied by a piece of rolling stock to ease the collection.

Each has seen little work. The two Minitrains Baldwins have number plates affixed to the bunker whilst the Bachmann example has army personnel as crew.

Must find their original boxes before proceeding further!

Minitrix chassis for 009 scratchbuild.

The latest aquisition is an aged Minitrix 0-6-0 tank loco which will be used to attach a scratch built body.

The loco runs very well but is a little light footed without the cast metal body attached. Weight can be incorporated in the new body I am sure.

Although this is an aged loco, the chassis is intact without any alterations which should make conversion easier.

It did, however, appreciate a drink of light oil on its moving parts improving its running even more.

Progress on Gwartha Vellan 009.

A few bits of plastic offcuts has enabled the building of this small stone shed. The roof, I think, is from the Wills small signal box.

Presently in primed grey it will be dry brushed to match the stone colouring already used.

Likewise with the engine shed which is mainly corrugated iron cladding with wood bracing.

The stream is slowly coming on with the course of the water brushed in brown. I must look for some small rocks to add before the area is flooded with varnish or maybe I will use the airbrush to contour a coat of Mod Podge which I have been meaning to try for a while.

The corrugated sheets have been roughly applied and literally cut to fit from many offcuts I had- no more!

There are three different profiles which represent the make do and mend attitude used on many narrow gauge railways on a less than solvent budget.

The last pics show the mill bridge and viaduct- very grand name- in position waiting for the sluice gates and water wheel to be located.

009 Egger-Bahn Railcar.

Sometimes life gets smiled on! So it was that I aquired a boxed railcar devoid of motor.

It had been converted as a dummy to run beind a motorised example.

The body on mine had been dropped and the roofs were both damaged.

So-the two were dismantled and one was made from the two and after slight touching up I have ended up with a virtually mint example!

Handy to find out that the Vallejo blue I have is an exact match for the railcars paintwork. Most you lose but this time it's win win!

009 GVT Stickers.

A friend of mine obtained some stickers, not transfers, for me for branding some stock for the latest 009 layout.
The first so adorned are the trio of Beyer Peacock tram engines as worked the lamented Glyn Valley Tramway.
The layout is yet to be named but will be replicant of the 3 initials.

Together with the Bachmann Baldwin the four make a great motive power roster,

Just have to decide which coaches will be branded the same.

009- not a bus but a Manning Wardle on a bridge!

A river will pass under the bridges, one on the main line and the other leading to the Engine shed.

The plan is to have a watermill between the bridges to which end I have received a water wheel and sluice gate from Derails amongst other things.

The resin cast bridges were purchased at the Alton show earlier this year and will be mounted as shown.

At least my initial plan has worked in that Wizard and Witch will both negotiate the main line and run round loop. They won't however work the canal siding, that being the reserve of Tram loco's.

009 Heljan Lynton and Barnstable twins.

This pair were originally both LEW and were from different batches of Heljan production. Wizard is from the first batch with Witch from the second. Both have run perfectly from new but they have both run on radii in excess of 14 inches. This layout has one curve at 12 inch radius leading to what will be the loco shed, this has yet to be laid but it is doubtful that either will visit
They will eventually be joined by Warlock when the L&B Baldwin arrives.

009 New Layout, Tracklaying progress.

The new layout , whilst basically a Tramway, will have to accomodate the Lynton and Barnstable locos.

To this end I have used the PECO largest radius turnouts with live frogs.

The Heljan loco's negotiate the points precisely without the need for modification.  Extensive testing was carried out whilst laying the track to make sure the loco's ran smoothly. In fact, this is probably the longest it has taken me to lay, what is really, a simple track layout.
This shows the canal basin board and one of the fiddle yards. The great thing is that extra boards can be added as time and space allow. It is very time consuming cutting numerous copper clad paxolin for securing the track at board joints.

009 GVT loco lining.

It's not perfect I know but shaky hands don't produce the best work!

Pressfix Mixed Traffic lining is a close match for the lining on the Bachmann Baldwin so it will do for me.

Each loco is different and all need a waft of Testors Dulcote to seal the decals before too much handling.

The enlargements cruelly expose my shortcomings but that's as good as I can do presently.
