Brecon Mountain Railway

Just a quick couple of images taken when taking a trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway from Pant Station just outside Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales.
A lovely day plus a fascinating ride was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Believe it or not, this was the first ride on a narrow gauge line since my incursion into 009.
Thoroughly recommended.

Hennock goods arrival-3mm Scale.

Busy day in the Hennock goods yard. A road roller has arrived to carry out some much needed road surgery to the localarea.
The roller and Morris 8 are both 3mm Society kits whilst the 6 wheeler is from Worsley Works.

Hillbrow coal yard 009 Narrow Gauge.

Below is a poor shot of the coal merchants SWB Austin FG
Continuing the use of readily available items, the coal merchants has an office and sanitary facility!
The hut is a humble Hornby- maybe Tri-ang/Hornby offering. The outhouse was found at an exhibition sometime.
Just needs a sign to depict ownership plus a pile of coal somewhere.
Below is a poor shot of the merchants SWB Austin FG partly loaded and waiting for the next load to arrive.

Finishing touches-Hillbrow-009Narrow Gauge.

Hillbrow has plastic locators which mean fitment to the trestles is easily done- especially at display height.
The lack of a 'normal' fiddle yard could give problems so a piece of ply has been cut to fit snugly behind the layout.
The turnouts are still easily operated and a cutout enables the controller to be plugged in- how did I find this out?
So- we have a good place for stock and more importantly-coffee mugs.
Subsequently an old decorating table was cut to fit between the trestles to accomodate the various transformers.

Greenwood Model Railway products controller holder.

When at Wimborne with Colin and Parkstone Goods, we spoke to Greenwood MRP.
Shown were several holders for DCC controllers but none for the most prevalent-Gaugemaster HH,Walkabout and Combi.
To our surprise Sunday saw a holder had been produced overnight from measurements taken from the controller on the layout next to him!
Supplied flatpack, the 7 parts go together precisely -stuck with PVA in this case-

Woody Lane final trackplan-009 Narrow Gauge.

The final trackplan has been decided and laid. This gives a much simpler and less regimented plan than that originally laid. It also negates the need for switches and control panel. The number of turnouts has also been reduced. the running is pretty good which will be a priority as it is basically designed as a continuous run to watch the trains go by. Once running is satisfactory the track can be sprayed and ballasted.

3mm Society Salisbury Open Meeting-April 8th 2017.

Teignford has been invited to the 3mm Society Salisbury Open meting at Winterbourne Gunner this Saturday-8th April.
The fascia/ lighting rig had several marks and scratches so a quick repaint was in order. I use Wilkinsons Blackboard Paint. It covers easily- doesn't need undercoat and ,most importantly , dries quickly and evenly.
Ex BR(WR) will be running this weekend and will give a good run out in preparation for the Salisbury exhibition at Wilton next month.

Woodlands couplings OO Gauge.

When helping Colin with his Parkstone Goods, the couplings were operated by magnets . I have shamelessly stolen this idea as shown on the left.
Simply put, a mini staple tail is soldered to the dropper on a Bachmann coupling. Must be a Bachmann coupler as the droppers are nickel silver so will take solder. Also the apertures are smaller than their Hornby counterparts thus they can't raise beyond the bar.
So- a lot of soldering and swapping of couplings.

02 class 0-4-4T 30225-in 4mm.

This South Eastern Finecast built kit was found at the recent Wimborne show.
It is remarkable because it is extremely well built with a compensated chassis. It is also extremely quiet for a kit built loco.
I was contemplating buying one of the Kernow models but was rather concerned about hte non concentric way that the coupling rods turn not always parallel to the ground.
So this tank loco will be ideal for Woodlandswith the Hornby Non Corridor Maunsell rebuilds.
