Running in board for Watershoot Bay.

The running in bard has arrived from Dart Castings.

https://www.dartcastings.co.uk/

The superb casting- no flash evident and fitted together perfectly was given a coat of grey primer and a rough coat of grey to represent weathered concrete .

When dry the nameboard from Sankey Scenics was glued in place.

Some wait until The layout can be worked on after a couple of exhibitions.

00 Gauge Signal Box for Watershoot Bay.

Finally the 'Box' for Watershoot Bay has been completed.

The basis is a Lcut laser cut kit with a few additions including a detailed interior complete with real wood floor- of course you can't see it now so was it worth the effort? Well I know it's there and furthermore the roof would fall off during transit if not secured.

Signs are from Smiths (Etched signs) and Sankey Scenics for the others.

Maybe the drain pipes are a little heavy.

009 loco's for Woody Lane.

A Double Fairlie from a 3D print on a KATO bogie chassis.

Seen awaiting it's next duty at Woody Lane.

Below it is seen coupled to its mineral train consisting of 009 Society and Jurassic wooden kit wagons mounted on PECO 'N' gauge wagon chassis fitted with metal wheels.

00 gauge Great Beams Clay Co wagon.

Whilst perusing a well known auction site I stumbled across this- a Burnham and District MRC Limited edition wagon. Produced for them by Dapol.

I haven't seen this particular example before and was unaware of the company.

The Great Beam Clay Co. was established in 1849 with their head off in St Austell.

A limited edition of 164, this is number 20.

Woody Lane 009 -ready for action!

Unashamed selection of photos taken whilst the layout is readied for Gartell and , later in February, Compton Dundon.

The loco's are all being tested and suitable stock selected.

Because of the tight radius of the track on Woody Lane, down to 7 inch radius, bogie stock is unable to be run.

So a selection of 4 wheel stock, GVR and Welshpool and Llanfair will be used-

Tending to the Beehives- a feature of all my 009 layouts-I like bees!

The postman has a cuppa before emptying the postbox!

009 Back on the road again- Canned Heat cover!

As a result of the Exhibition season re-opening it is necessary to rescue the layouts from their storage rack and prepare them for an outing.

First up is Woody Lane my 009 continuous run layout- self contained on a 4ft x 2ft board. Has its own lighting and once the controller and lighting transformers are installed, pretty much self contained.

Woody Lane has been invited to The Gartell Railway Open Day on the 12/13th February- described a few posts ago.

The wooden wagons from Jurassic models make a lovely rake- eight at present. I still have a couple to make and then the loads can be added.

00 Gauge Isle of Wight Railway wagon.

I have had this black painted Hornby 4 plank wagon that was meant to have a set of Powsides rub on transfers for some time.

As I have many Private Owner wagons there is little point in making more- I haven't got a layout large enough to have them all on anyway!

So some lettering from a very aged transfer sheet yielded up enough lettering for an Isle of Wight Railway pre-grouping wagon.

It looks a bit decrepit-Just right!

00 Gauge vans for Watershoot Bay.

I am assembling the second Isle of Wight van for Watershoot Bay.

Several Parkside LMS 9ft wheelbase bare chassis kits are to be used the first being complete awaiting painting.

The second has had buffer beams from the bits box attached to the van body. The chassis has had pinpoint bearings inserted after removal of the plastic bearings.

The floor has been shortened and fitted- next one will have modifications but more of that anon.

Track base colour applied to Watershoot Bay.

With all the track in position and before I start the wiring the track has been given a coat of dark brown.

This is before the rail sides are given a brush of rust.

The turnouts have all been masked and the contact areas given extra protection to ensure electrical conductivity once it is all wired.

All three boards have been treated to ensure continuity of colour.

Watershoot Bay fiddle yard.

The fiddle yard has been attached and rails added. Rails have been soldered to brass flat head screws  between boards which gives a secure attachment.

The fiddle yard board has single sided copperclad paxolin glued and pinned to the sector plate. This gives simple alignment which will need some form of electrical continuity.

Three roads should be enough storage for a small layout- a piece of sponge has been glued to the end of the fiddle yard to hopefully avoid damage.

The stock is shown in the lower picture to ensure there is sufficient space for the envisaged train formations.

00 Gauge vans for Watershoot Bay Isle of Wight layout.

Without spending too much I have looked for suitable vans for Watershoot Bay.

Some Tri-ang Hornby Hull and Barnsley van bodies were obtained as it was simple to add outside strapping with plastic strip.

Some Parkside Midland Railway 9ft wheelbase chassis kits provide the running gear with Gibson wheels.

Buffer beams aren't supplied in the kit but I had several in the bits box together with buffer heads.

Reasonable rendition of an IOW van.

Fiddle Yard for Watershoot Bay.

I cut down an existing fiddle yard which I had made for another layout which didn't come to fruition.

Made from 2 x 1 softwood topped with 9mm ply from the wood merchants not a DIY shed. Pivoted with a coach blot and wing nut means that the sector plate can be secured fro transit. It also helped that the alignment dowels fit the two boards perfectly- unexpected bonus!

00 gauge structures for Watershoot Bay- Isle of Wight.

The signal box for Watershoot Bay is almost complete. The steps need attaching and the interior painted.

The kit is from LCut, their medium sized box. It bears a slight resemblance to the box at Ventnor!

I am still undecided on to whether I should fit a verandah by the access door and steps- ho hum!

The station building is a mixture of  the PECO wooden kit and Wills station shelter.

Painted in Southern Railway chrome green and cream it is roughly the size I wanted to fit the available space and seems to provide a reasonable structure.

Once the signage is fitted together with a few appropriate posters/ boards it will be ready for placing.

00 gauge S&DJR loco addition.

Being able to visit the Frome Model Railway exhibition meant that I could find another loco for the S&DJR collection bringing the total to five.

I haven't had a Jinty since my Tri-ang one some sixty five years ago- this time the offering from Bachmann.

Needs some work on the pickups but otherwise a good rarely used example.

Couldn't resist a few images with 23attached to a few appropriate wagons.

Corrected spelling signs for Watershoot Bay!

Thanks to an eagle eyed pal I now have correctly spelled Station Names!

Not Sankey Scenics fault just me hitting the go button too quickly.

So, now the corrected signs have arrived work can progress on nameboards and lamposts.
