St Mewan China Clay dries/ siding.

This is the first image of what will be the clay dries loading dock. Sized to situate a wagon beside a loading bay it will represent a brick built structure as seen in recent research. The chimney is a Bachmann Scenecraft product and just fits the available space.
The whole structure awaiting cladding and wagon to illustrate spacing.
Again I have used Howard Scenic's brick paper as it, to me, is a fair representation of aged and worn brickwork. Need to clean up the fluffy bits whjch always look worse in a photo.

Cornish China Clay Dries and Loading docks.

Research into structures is a very consuming pastime if you don't possess a specific book on the subject.

So it has been in looking for a suitable idea for how to represent the clay dries. Obviously with a layout of this size only an impression can be shown. This will also have to be low relief in a width of about two inches behind the siding.

However, I have found a couple of images which inspired my model which will be fabricated in artists mounting card and corrugated plastic sheet.

Signalling for St Mewan.

The signal was obtained as a non-working Dapol product and was the only Western signal I possess.

Also in the pipeline is some point rodding which I am slowly assembling during glue drying moments.

I am weighing up whether a Water Tower would be suitably located behind the signal but am unsure of this site as it would mean that the loco being 'watered' would be across the turnout.

St Mewan Station- groundwork finished.

The first structures have been fixed into place.

The station, lamp hut and signal box have also been bedded in with fine granite chippings to hide the joins.

I think it is starting to look like a model railway but there is still a long way to go even in a total of five square feet!

Next to find all the bits and pieces that have been squirreled away for just such an occasion.

St Mewan Platforms.

This is as far as I have progressed with St Mewan.

The platform is just about finished, having very fine ballast added to the surface just as a change from my usual fine wet and dry paper. Don't worry though, I have used that for the roadway!

D6325 arrives with clay wagons and the branch Toad bringing up the rear.

Passing the running in sign and the signal box which have yet to be secured to the platform.

The tarpaulins on the clay wagons were described in a previous post but look the part I think.

Some research is in hand to work out the headcode which will be worn by the type 2.

Turned and ready to depart, the signal has been positioned but just out of shot- must remember to include that soon. This picture does show how far the station has progressed

The last picture shows a close up of the branch Toad with relevant naming. The transfers for the name are by Railtec who I cannot recommend more as they have supplied custom  transfers in 3mm, 4mm and 0 Gauge for me.

Dapol 00 gauge Type 2 Diesel Hydraulic.

This small diesel arrived recently from Rails of Sheffield.

Sold as used, it appears to be brand new so well pleased at the price.

Used after 1962 on services in Cornwall, D6325 will be used on china clay trains from St Mewan.

I still have to research a suitable headcode - so more Google or maybe a new (to me) book.

St. Mewan station buildings.

After a couple of reworkings I think the station building now looks more in proportion. However, stuck  the roof  on the wrong way round- ho hum!

Added a couple of pillars to support the canopy which add a bit to the building.

The signal box , although only slightly smaller, looks better situated on the platform than the original.

Still need to finish the interior with a 'comfy chair' and a signalman but there is no hurry.

The 'ST MEWAN SIGNAL BOX' sign has been ordered from Narrow Planet but there will be a delay as their etchers are not currently working.

Below is the positioning of the buildings- I am waiting for the postperson to deliver a couple more kits to complete. Also I must sort out where the loading gauge is going to go- decisions, decisions!
