Slaters O Gauge SE&CR PLV.

This is by far the largest kit I have made- so far anyway.

I have a Toplight brass kit for O Gauge next!

The pics show the completed body, then plus roof and finally the completed vehicle.

This is a large van and doesn't fit inside the display case which currently can house a couple of Terriers or SR Vent vans.

So onwards!

3mm Brynkits Hawksworth Full Brake completed.

It has been a pleasure to build this kit as, apart from wheels, couplings, paint and transfers it is complete.

Brian, of Brynkits, has produced an excellent kit of use to all who model the Western Region of British Railways.

I already have a BSK under way and am waiting for a Corridor Composite to make a rake of 3 coaches- ample for Teignford.

Teignford at SSWRS Exhibition 2019.

I had recently lost all of my photos held on my computer.

So, the opportunity wastaken at the Salisbury show to take some images of Teignford under operating conditions.

The layout was well received and a very complimentary letter from the exhibition manager, Charles, was enclosed with the expenses. A very nice touch.

Slaters O Gauge PLV.

The PLV has had the brake gear fitted.

The mechanism has been assembled with brass wire holding the mechanism together.

Now this has been done primer can be applied before the topcoat. I understand that Vauxhall Brazil Brown is a match for SECR Umber.

So I need  to visit Halfords to get an aerosol can or visit Rainbow Paints to get it mixed.

3MM Scale Brynkits Hawksworth Full Brake.

This is how far I have got with the kit.

The final thing is to fit the roof which is a resin casting. It needs fitting in two pieces due to the original casting being slightly short.

However, Brian of Brynkits has sent  an offcut of a roof which will enable me to complete this coach.

This really is a quality piece of etching!

Scenes from Teignford-3mm Scale.

Little chat today just a few shots of Teignford taken before the appearance at the Salisbury
 Exhibition.

The RAC box is a resin casting from Yeoman Models who produce several 3mm scale items, their main products are for Wargaming.

The 3mm scale Teignford barn.

This structure is the pride of Teignford. Built from a drawing by the late Alan Downes it shows what can be done with cardboard and matchsticks.

When I originally made it I had a message from Alan advising me to re-do the roof with individual slates .

The original roof was covered with strips of reduced Superquick roofing tiles.

I took his advice and the structure was transformed to what you see here.

The tractor is a Fordson which was a 3D print from the late lamented Finney and Smith.

There is also a Petter Stationary Engine in the farmyard from the same source but is difficult to photograph.

The ducks and geese are enjoying a quiet time but when you see the layout at an exhibition- look for the creature that will potentially spoil their day!

009 Challenge- Norfolk Heath Works Baseboards.

The two baseboards destined to become entrants for the 009 Challenge have finally been assembled.

I must say that both went together very easily and have resulted in a sturdy basis for a 009 micro layout.

The two simply bolt together through the holes on the front and back - see the holes  to the left and right of the front .

I have chosen the dropped front board but may order another set without the drop front for use at a later date.
Above shows the well made sector plate- the bolts will be replaced with countersunk versions to enable track to be laid. All in all a well thought out and lazer cut set of baseboards at an unbelievable price- well done Norfolk Heath!

3mm Teignford- the refurb!

The refurbishment of Teignford is under way. Several places have become somewhat threadbare and require suitable reflocking! (Is that actually a word?)

Luckily I had a large container full of the same Woodland Scenic's flock that was used originally so with watered down PVA, applied with a soft brush ,more flock was added.

Some of the ballasting has also been somewhat worn so the same method was used to replenish the threadbare areas.

There have always been a dirth of trees on the Teignford station board- this I aim to correct with half a dozen China sourced examples.

They have wire armatures and are fairly realistic if you keep your eyes shut!

Several cameo scenes have been arranged on Teignford as shown in the picture below of a couple of passengers discussing the next departure with a porter.

3mm Thumper!

Whilst preparing Teignford for it's forthcoming outing it is only natural to have a session playing trains.

The magnetic couplings have been checked and appear to work well.
The operation is somewhat localised, by that I mean it is over a small area and the axles can be attracted by the magnets. However, it is only during an exhibition that you truly understand the operational constraints.

Anyway, I took the oportunity to give the Thumper a run up and down the station area and so I am looking forward to completing it- must get the 4mm version out for comparison.

The 009 Challenge.

After much deliberation I have ordered and received the pair of baseboards from Norfolk Heath Works and am very impressed with the quality of the product.

The board has been embellished with the 009 Society logo- sorry about the poor image but I don't want to unwrap them before I can assemble.

The two packs are shown below and await assembly and creative juices to flow!

Skytrex 0 Gauge fire buckets.

Quick and easy one today- a whitemetal casting of three fire buckets hung on a wall mounted stand for adding to Cringle Street Goods.

Representing fire buckets filled with sand, they are a good representation of the prototype.

And ,for a fiver, good value.

Worsley Works 009 GVT Clerestory Coach.

Well, after a long time the final addition to the GVT fleet has been completed.

My painting skills aren't what they used to be so I will have to live with it.

Destined to join the Peco GVT coaches but with a freelance slant, this will complete the coaching stock rakes to be pulled by the tram locos

3mm Scale BR&CW Type 3.

This class 33 or BR&CW Type 3 has had a change of ownership a few times.

My co-operator had taken this  slightly started shell and transformed it, with a Geoff Halliwell motor bogie , into the model seen before you.

Although it is outside my era, it just may be suitable for working with the Bulleid coaches-seen below.

Anyway, I must get the swap side of the deal out of storage ready for the Dorset group meeting on Saturday
Awaiting the go ahead signal from Teignford on a summer excursion.

3mm Bulleid Q1.

Well, the Q1 has finally been finished and has done a few trips up and down Teignford.

Seems to work well after the tender wheels were gauged correctly and some sideplay added to the centre tender wheels. Just waiting for the smokebox numberplate and shed code from Narrow Planet

So, once Teignford is up and running it would appear that the Southern Region has gained some running rights- bring on the Bulleid coaches!
