RAF Masirah had a beach club which was served by a flat truck fitted with seats to transport the personnel to their watering hole.
A few minutes plus some balsa wood, strip plastic and a card kit of a shed saw the effort on the right and below.
A few discarded oil drums plus a couple of stray bombs completes Misarah- just to glue a couple of club patrons in place.
If there is anyone there, I was OIC (Officer in charge) of the Masirah State Railway (MSR) in 1970, at age 21, responsible for maintaining it against all odds. I just about succeeded, spending many hours working under the tropical sun to lay track, and then relay it when a tropical storm washed the track-bed away and again when the RAF decided to extend the sand runway. I love the thought that someone somewhere has modelled it. And, yes, I'm still hooked on trains. Mike Strong

ReplyDeleteI came across the book on RAF Masirah by Bill Corser and what a fascinating read. I had a small board on which I wanted a micro layout and by changing the a and i around ensured it wasn't viewed as a copy- far too large to model fully anyway. I liked the idea of a Beach Club in such an environment plus the way the locals unloaded the fuel barrels.Several people have spoken to me- sorry I am lousy at remembering names- who had been stationed there with many stories to tell. Thanks again so much for getting in touch, it's rewarding to know this small layout gives pleasure. Best wishes, Steve
