Bournemouth Air Show 2019.

Just a few poor pictures taken at Bournemouth Airshow on Thursday 29th August.

PECO 0 Gauge Mineral Wagon.

After a quick coating of grey primer, the transfers have been affixed.

The interior has been painted dirtuy black as most will be covered with a coal load.

Then a coat of matt varnish and all is done.

Looks like the myriad of 3mm and 009 kits are next to be tackled -although there is a brass BR Brake Van in 0 Gauge to be completed!

Thursday 29 August 2019

7mm PECO 16T Mineral Wagon.

The second Mineral Wagon was delayed by missing pieces in the kit.

However, a quick call to the PECO Technical Dept and replacement parts were quickly supplied.

Undercoated in grey primer, the wagon is now ready for transfers and then a coat of matt varnish.

Finally, Sprat and Winkle couplings will be fitted and this model will be ready for another era for Cringle Street.

3mm- East Boldre. Progress update.

This is the control panel for East Boldre. The panel comes from Model Railway Solutions which I purchased some time ago.

I am not sure if I have overdone it with such a simple track layout.

the section switches have been fitted together with the control DIN plug.

Below are the fitted point control slide switches which change polarity at the point frog.

The handbuilt points- or turnouts- are by Hugh Martin and are superb!

4mm Petite Properties.

I am extremely pleased with the finished Harpers Yard from Petite Properties.

Yet to be named, this building has been finished in Howards Scenics- available from Freestone Accessories, Victorian Brickwork paper.

The roof has been coated with corrugated iron and has been aged with a coating of  rust over the metallic silver base.

Cringle Street Goods sign.

The name has been added whichgives an identity to Cringle Street.

The base was given a coat of satin black and the lettering was primed with Army Painter white undercoat.

This gives a nice texture to the letters which contrast with the base.

I have mounted this nameplate centrally rather than to the left, as viewed, as on the 009 layouts.

009 Quarry Hunslet.

This engine I aquired some time ago and nearly forgot I had it.

The chassis is a Graham Farish by Bachmann 03 0-6-0 which has had the counter balance weights removed.

I have another brand new chassis with rather racy yellow wheels which could be substituted.

The nameplates are Palmerston which are from an etch given to me by Allen Docherty of Worsley Works. This was for a double Fairlie but has been cut down.

And yes, I know the whistle is missing- one of those clumsy moments which recently seem all too frequent! But anyway I have a Quarry Hunslet before Bachmann release theirs!

0 Gauge Cringle Street Goods Nameplate arrives.

At the recent Pewsey009 open day I had a delivery from Mike of Jurassic of the sign for Cringle Street Goods. Excellently cut in thin plywood , the result is to Mikes high standard.

Just have to prepare and spray the base and raised lettering, then the complete sign can be added to the lighting pelmet- centrally this time. Other lettering, scale etc. can then be decided upon.

Another excellent result from Mike!

1/76- 00 scale Petite Properties.

I really like these kits by Petite Properties. Previously I have made Teacup Cottage. Accurately lazer cut in thin MDF these parts go together extremely well.

The wooden parts have been glued together with PVA and held tightly with clamps.

The finish is left to the purchaser and this building will be faced with Victorian Brickwork from Howards Scenics.

Once the glue has cured the edges have been cleaned up ( to correct my mistakes- not the kits) with emery boards which can be purchased reasonably at Poundland etc..

Once completely dry, the clamps have been removed to reveal a blank canvass to be detailed.

The last picture shows the carcass covered with brick paper which has been  cut and folded around the door and window apertures.

All that remains is for the doors, windows and associated woodwork to be painted and glued in place.

7MM PECO 16Ton Mineral Wagons.

A couple of PECO 16Ton Mineral Wagons were purchased at Minehead and the pics show how far I have gotten with their assembly.

I have chosen the end door not to open as handling will probably mean that the door will be secured shut at an early date.

Shown in undercoat , this is a very simple kit to assemble and the components locate extremely well.

Will show more when transfers have been applied.

Monday 19 August 2019

A brace of 0 Gauge Pannier Tanks.

The 8750 Pannier Tank, on the right, was delivered from Rails as a special offer. This one is a Dapolproduct and is incorrect as it displays a smokebox number.

The black 57XX is a Minerva Models offering. This one didn't have as many fittings attached as the Dapol model, leaving it to the purchaser to add.

Which is best? Well for fittings the Dapol product is superior. However, the Minerva Pannier has many fittings to individualise my model.

Crew wise, The 57XX has ModelU figures which were ex-display offers at Wells where the loco was aquired.

The 8750 has S&D Phoenix 1/43 figures which are white metal compared to ModelU resin.

Number plates , smokebox number and shed plate have already been ordered from Narrow Planet .

By the way, Cringle Street now has two exhibition bookings- Poole and Minehead. More details later.

3mm New Layout- EastBoldre.

I am extremely lucky to have a friend that can advise me of the electrical isolators and feeds.

A complete drawing of the scenic board is pictured showing feeds and isolating locations.

Once this weekends exhibition at Pewsey is over, work can commence in earnest on East Boldre.

Thursday 15 August 2019

3mm scale Worsley Works M7.

It has been  a long time in construction but at long last, minus couplings, it has been completed.

I must admit that the lining has been quite a challenge as my hands now shake and make exact positioning difficult- so please excuse.

Slowly the loco stud for East Boldre is increasing- now have an M7, Q1, Adams Radial, Crompton Diesel plus a G6 kit to make and , when I am feeling brave, a 'N' Class mogul.

0 Gauge Slaters 6 Wheel Milk Tank.

You may remember that I bought this unloved 6 wheel tank for a song. I doubt if I would have an example unless this had come up.

The whole thing was dismantled and the paint stripped. After cleaning up it has been repainted and fresh Methfix Transfers applied from Slaters.

The ladders were broken/ detached so some brass ladders have been cut to length

A challenge will be the fitting of Sprat and Winkle couplings with the air/vacuum pipe fittings and await fitting as does the drain cocks. The springs that have been supplied as the flexible pipes have been reinforced with 1.5 twin and earth copper wire to hold in place.

Sunday 11 August 2019

0 Gauge 08 shunter is allocated to Cringle Street.

In attempt to add some period changes which can be adopted during exhibitions the 08 pictured has been aquired.

In BR green D3002 will be the mainstay of BR workings of the late 50's and early 60's era.

Already under construction is a BR standard Brake Van plus a vent van, ex Private owner 7 plank plus a couple of unmade Peco 0 Gauge mineral wagons.

There is a possibility that Cringle Street may make an exhibition debut later this year!

Saturday 10 August 2019

3mm new layout East Boldre.

For sometime I have been contemplating a new 3mm scalelayout.

Inspiration was fueled by Mutton at Minehead so a 4ft x 16inch board was rescued from the loft and a start made.

I have used track produced by Ratio for the 3mm Society and the excellent handmade pointwork by Hugh Martin.

The trackplan has been tested and fits the stock which will be used.

The track is, at present, lightly pinned to the board which has had the turnout tie-bars marked for drilling.

After some thought, unusual for me, it has been decided that I will use wire in tube to actuate the points with slide switches.

Whatever I choose will probably be influenced by a visit to Railwells and the MSE stand!

Friday 9 August 2019

Minehead and Mutton!

Our recent sojourn to Minehead was a very satisfying break- no pressure just a good relaxing weekend!

Last year Hillbrow was fortunate to be awarded best modelling award- this year Mutton, by Rob Gunstone, was deservedly given the same accolade.

A very convincing adaptation of the Lyme Regis branch has been excellently portrayed.

Below are some pics of this excellent layout.

Thursday 8 August 2019

7mm machine wagon- Lowmac.

As mentioned previously this is a brass kit which has been well made and painted in a distressed state.

This shows the rocking/compensated axle- the other is fixed.

What I didn't realise was that the fitting of Sprat and Winkle couplings- by the way, ordered more on Monday and received lunchtime today-Wednesday- meant that the makers mark has been obscured.

An unusual subject which I probably wouldn't have chosen to make.

Wednesday 7 August 2019

3mm M7

The M7 has, at long last, it's final coat of paint applied.

A coat of satin black by my local car paint supplier, Rainbow Paints, has been applied which has improved the look no end. Next to apply transfers which will be the 4mm Pressfix type.

Below is the body sitting on the chassis which needs the spacing washer before final fixing.

The roof has been similarly treated but will not be fitted until a crew has been set in place.

Tuesday 6 August 2019

3mm scale M7.

It is starting to look like an M7!

Built from a Worsley Works scratch aid kit, the main part has been constructed by a friend.

The whitemetal fittings plus steps have been added plus the vacuum tank under the front buffer beam.

The smokebox darts were made from a couple of handrail knobs.

The roof has been made as designed and a pic will follow shortly.

So- looks like an M7 so must be an M7. Must get on and complete the Maunsell Pull Push 1959 conversion.
